So, what’s new this week?
As my first book is getting closer to the finish line, I thought I would introduce you to the person who has been instrumental in bringing my book alive!
I’m thrilled to introduce you to my illustrator, Ryan Durney of Austin, Texas. Ryan is not only an extraordinary artist but also a generous mentor who has guided me through the creation of my very first children’s book. I’m deeply grateful to have found someone so talented, knowledgeable, and kind to partner with as I navigate this uncharted adventure into the world of publishing.
About Ryan
Ryan is an award‑winning, full‑time freelance illustrator whose work spans children’s books, fantasy, science fiction, and prehistoric subjects. Using a blend of inks, paints, and digital techniques, he creates artwork that feels both timeless and refreshingly original. His illustrations have appeared in more than 36 issues of ODYSSEY Magazine, where he was also selected as the sole illustrator for their retrospective collection.
His work has earned multiple honors, including Mom’s Choice Awards in 2011, 2012, and 2016. His illustrations for Princess Willow & the Magic Fairy Brush received Creative Child Magazine’s Product of the Year (2016). Of all his achievements, Ryan says his favorite recognition is being voted in by kids themselves for a Children’s Choice Award — a testament to the heart and imagination he pours into every piece.
Ryan is also a published author of both fiction and nonfiction children’s books. And for those who value traditional craftsmanship, you’ll appreciate knowing that he does not use AI for any of his illustrations — every image is created by his own hand and artistic vision.
I couldn’t be more honored to have Ryan bringing my story to life. Thank you, Ryan!
